Are you looking to launch your professional theatre career AND serve your community? SF Shakes is looking for motivated, professionally-oriented students and young people to join our summer intern company.
SF Shakes internships are open to anyone who is 16-25 years old and/or a current student. Our interns are paid to perform a variety of tasks in support of our summer programs, and work an average of 20 hours per week.
Interns are also required to attend at least four of six workshops. We regret that we are unable to provide housing. See below for the application and a list of available internships- you may apply for more than one. The application deadline for 2023 performance internships is March 10, and March 31 for all other internships.
*Actors’ Equity Association is phasing out the Equity Membership Candidate Program. Effective May 8, 2023, Equity will stop admitting new applicants to the EMC program. Current EMCs will retain their status for three years, including their priority access to Equity auditions.
Performance interns play supporting ensemble roles in the Free Shakespeare in the Park production of Cymbeline and understudy professional actors.
Stage Management interns assist the Free Shakespeare in the Park Production Manager, Stage Manager, and Deck Manager during rehearsals and backstage during performances.
Production interns assist Free Shakespeare in the Park, in the areas of Props, Wardrobe and Sound.
Hospitality interns assist with Free Shakespeare in the Park audience interaction and engagement, including survey administration, customer service (setting up chairs, handing out programs, etc), and concessions.
Literary interns assist the Free Shakes director and dramaturge with research and program notes.
Education interns assist Education staff and assistant teach at 2-week sessions of Shakespeare Camps.
